The animation industries in Indonesia is growing very fast nowadays. Many commercials using CG for its content, entirely or just a small part of its duration. More new animation studio taking part in this competition. And freelancer, ow yes, they are everywhere. Indonesia animator used to be involved in the making of full CG features film titled ‘Sing to The Dawn’, and now some studios have their in progress TV Series projects. Some of the series are from overseas.
For the consequences, young people who eager to have career in this industries need more place to learn and study animation. More students will create more experimental animation short film as a part of their study program. And those film need access to be viewed by public.
Hello;Festival, an annual animation event in Indonesia is the bridge those young animator have been searching for. The 5th Hello;Festival, or Hello;Fest for short, has been held in November 2008 with more than one hundred contestants participated in that event. But only twenty short film came as finalist and took place in competition.
The winner at the 5th Hello;Fest was ‘Ibu Bumi Murka’ (Anger of Mother Earth). The second and third place occupied by 'The New Nitro (Ninja Katro)' and 'Balada si Duit Ceban'.Hello;Fest is not only about animation festival. It’s also a competition for hero and movie character costume, also known as Cosplay Festival. The Cosplay competition even much more hilarious than the animation movie competition itself. We can see Kamen Rider, Final Fantasy Character, Sailor Moon and more fiction character came to life.
Hello;Festival presented by Hello;Motion school of animation. And the man behind the successful animation event is Wahyu Aditya, an animator with several winning award not only locally but also in international animation events.* (vee)
